It's hard getting alcohol when everyone knows you.

I'm not gonna ask since I doubt you'd tell me, but I have to wonder what got you into drinking at your age.

It's relaxing. Haven't you ever tried it?

No. I'm more of a caffeine addict, personally. Alcohol could fuck up an esper's personal reality due to altered states of mind. On top of that, I have brain damage from a gunshot. That's what this is for.

[taps the terminal on the choker]

Do you regret it?

[blinks bemusedly] Being an esper.

. . . Becoming one at all, I don't know. How I handled the problems that came with it, that I regret. That was a conscious choice on my part, unlike my parents enrolling me in the city's power curriculum.

I was a stupid kid younger than you with no one I could trust. I came up with a stupid, idealistic idea of how to prevent conflict, and then I got used by scientists who wanted to cash in on success by working with prize research material.

It's in the past. It fucked me up, but it made me who I am. I'm better off just making the best of repaying my debts.
